Who: Music lovers, both young and old, who came to "Praise the Loud," and local and national musical acts
What: Cities 97 Basilica Block Party
When: July 12-13, 2013
Where: Basilica of Saint Mary
Why: To fund the renovation of the Basilica and its surrounding campus. A portion of the proceeds also benefit the St. Vincent de Paul outreach program.
The Scene: With three stages spread out across the Basilica grounds, there were plenty of choices for everyone. Food vendors offered a state fair feel (complete with corn dogs and cheese curds) and fans of all kinds bounced from stage to stage to take in as many tunes as possible.
Kudos . . . to the good sport, the tall guy among the sea of ladies at Matt Nathanson's show. Nathanson even razzed the guy for not singing with the rest of the crowd.
Dress code: We felt like we were in a time warp—on the set of Saved by the Bell. High-waisted, acid-washed denim shorts and midriff-baring tops were everywhere. It was a perfect complement to '90s-era headliners The Goo Goo Dolls and Matchbox Twenty.
Memorable moments: Aside from Saturday's headliners? Grace Potter & The Nocturnals rocked the Sun Country Airlines stage on Friday night. Our favorite was her stunning performance of "Stars." She even dedicated it to a few local fans. Other favorites: Cloud Cult and WALK THE MOON.
