Pet-A-Palooza @ Minnesota State Fairgrounds
Saturday 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.
Is one (or more) of your children furry? Bring the whole pack along for a pet-centric day of fun. Fido can get squeaky clean at the dog washing station, strut his stuff in the cutest pet competition, fill up at the pet buffet, and then take in live music and dock-jumping demonstrations from Dock Dogs Northern Stars. There’s food and fun for the human kiddos, too.
Big Back Yard @ Science Museum of Minnesota
Saturday and Sunday 10:30 a.m. – 5 p.m. (weather permitting)
The Science Museum’s outdoor exhibits are now open for the season. Meander through a native prairie maze, walk into the Camera Obscura, and bring a picnic lunch to enjoy in the Native American gardens. For $5 you can also play the 9-hole EarthScapes mini-golf course, which teaches how water shapes landscapes.
Free with museum admission: adults $13, kids ages 4-12 and seniors 60+ $10, kids ages 3 and younger free.
Painting With Our Feet @ Walker Art Center’s Open Field
Saturday noon – 3 p.m.
Kids of all ages can skip, hop, and dance their way across a gigantic piece of fabric and play a supersized game of “Simon Says,” all with paint-covered feet.
Twin Cities Jazz Festival @ Mears Park
Saturday noon – 9 p.m.
Catch some hot summer jazz in the historic Lowertown neighborhood of downtown St. Paul on Saturday. There are four main stages and a dozen club and restaurant stages in and around Mears Park, so you can pick the venue that works best for your crew, rain or shine.
Minneapolis Pops Orchestra @ Lake Harriet Bandshell
Saturday 7:30 – 9 p.m. and Sunday 5:30 – 7 p.m.
Saturday night kicks off the Minneapolis Pops Orchestra’s 65th season. It’s the only professional group in the Midwest specifically formed to play free, outdoor concerts for the public, and the music is fantastic. Grab an ice cream cone, take a seat, and enjoy the sounds.
