Surly Beer Hall to Open: December
First Bite: Le Town Talk Diner

Don’t be caught with your Danish in the wind. National Donut Day is June 6 and you could be the hero of your office . . . or the fool. NDD is big business. Every year bakeries in town, especially those in the downtowns, gear up for big orders. This is not a joke, they routinely run out.
Trust us, even worse than being the schlub who missed the window, is the schlub who had to settle for gas station donuts to bring the cube mates. You know what, Johnny? Go big or go home. If you want to win donut day, you have to get your order in toute suite.
The darling of the moment of donut fandom is the NOW OPEN Bogart's Doughnut Co. in South Minny. The shop is the extension of the popular Kingfield farmer's market stall, Bogart Loves. They've been know to throw some fresh and tasty dough, but since they are still in neophyte mode, I have no idea what kind of volume they're capable of, and I'm afraid of swamping them with orders. So, let's press on for now.
Angel Food Bakery is the downtown Minneapolis bakery arm of Hell’s Kitchen, and it’s a slice of donut heaven. Do you want to spell out a specific message to coworkers? Order some brightly frosted alphabet donuts that spell out whatever you want (may we suggest: WINNING). Looking for something a bit more edgy? Well sure they’ve got the bacon maple donut and the controversial cronut (aka dough-ssant, cro-knot, etc.).
Do you really want to kill it? Check out these glazed donut breakfast sandwiches, which are dude-food approved. Two glazed donuts hold together a bit of egg, bacon, and cheese to deliver a salty, sweet good morning gut rush. These are usually available in limited quantities, so make sure to order ahead.
Also in production, are savory donuts. We tried the prototype Monte Cristo, which was a donut ball pegged with ham and Swiss, rolled in powdered sugar with a cranberry jam dip. There’s also a ham/turkey/cheese/pickle one in production with a snappy Hell’s Kitchen sweet-hot mustard glaze. Kablam.
Because it’s their high holiday, Angel Food will also be delivering orders around town that day for minimum $25 orders. And don’t forget the Peace Coffee and an insulin shot on the side.
