Chef Leonard Anderson is working on opening a new restaurant on the East Side of St. Paul.
Tongue In Cheek East Side will be opening in the old La Palapa spot off of Payne Ave., just north of Case Ave. At the heart of the new American restaurant will be a strong commitment to using only humanely raised animal products. Anderson’s wife has been a part of HFA.org for some time. The bottom of the posted menu reads:
We are devoted to using only animal products that are raised/caught in a humane & sustainable manner. This is something w are passionate about & it will never be compromised. We believe living a good life tastes better.
Anderson, who used to lead the kitchen at W.A. Frost before launching the former Hanger Room, plans a menu that will be upscale casual with a seasonally changing dishes. At first glance there are $2 Teasers of braised pork, scallop crudo, burnt feta & sweet pea; a To Share or Not section offering risotto “tater tots”, gnocchi, fries & gravy, and something called the Pig & Fiddle; bigger plates including sesame crusted wild salmon, braised pork, and a grass-fed cheeseburger among other things. It also promises two 6-course tasting menus, omnivore for $45 and herbivore for $39.
The beverage program will have craft cocktails made from “obscure and unique ingredients & flavors”, along with a “small but focused” list of beers, and a wine list highlighting unusual varietals and regions. They will be open for dinner nightly & brunch on the weekends.
Anderson says they got the keys on Monday and that it should only need a small cosmetic remodel. They are planning to be open in early June.
