A Wine Tasting to Blow Your Mind

Lotsa stuff bubbled up this weekend, and so I’m just going to plop up some news for you, seeing as none of us should be at our computers next Friday.
>> Marché is open in the Lime Apartment Building in the Lyn-Lake neighborhood. The apartment’s airy modern lobby shares space with Marché, which is an interesting idea from Jester Concepts (Borough, Coup d’Etat). During the morning the space will function as a grab ‘n’ go coffee and pastry bar. It will evolve during the day with pick up meals or light café fare for counter service. Keep in mind that there’s not a full kitchen, no hood, so hot food will be simple: Croque monsieur, grilled cheese, charcuterie plates, big salads. And of course there’s a full liquor license so the whole area is covered for cocktailing. The bar menu includes some pre-batched bottled cocktails designed by Jesse Held: Fernet You Not has Fernet with sarsaparilla, the Far North Mule features local Solveig gin with lime and ginger. Seating can be found at the bar or any of the tables and nooks in the lobby, where there are plenty of plug-ins and free wifi. The windowed wall opens to the side street where a 56-seat patio is being set. It’s very much in soft opening right now, so expect options to fill out as they get their feet under them and figure stuff out.
>> Rival House in St. Paul is now open in the DoubleTree smack dab in downtown. The bar revamp is the work of Ben Graves and friends, and the theme is gamesmanship. Calling itself a Sporting Parlour, it has plenty of screens, pinball, skee-ball, Jenga, checkers, ping-pong, and the like. There’s also a lot of beer, beer cocktails, and plenty of pizza from the Red Wagon Pizza Company pizza team.
>> Dunn Bros. has opened a new concept in the long-dark Muddy Paws space on Hennepin in Lowry Hill. The spot has been redone with garage door windows that swing open to the street for an airy vibe, and hey . . . There’s A BAR!! Yes, this coffee shop is taking it up a notch with bar service that includes cocktails, beer, and wine. How about sipping on a Good Morning, Good Afternoon, and Good Night made with Surly Bender and the Infinite Black cold press coffee? Or a Hopped Shandy Gaff with IPA, ginger beer, Bittercube hop bitters, and lime? Happy Hour from 2-7 p.m. every day!
>> Punch Pizza in Maple Grove opened. Toto for everyone!
>> Foreign Legion, the cocktail/cheese bar yet to be launched by BZ, will be open for a pre-holiday happy hour this Thursday, July 3, from 4-7 p.m. You have to try Trish’s Blonde Negroni, it works, it plays.
>> Also DMG has something up her sleeve that will come out this afternoon. Woot!
>> Cafeteria officially closed the Skybar rooftop as they gear up for the debut of Libertine.
>> Curry ‘n’ Noodle in Hopkins has gone dark. This was an insider favorite and I am SUPER SAD to see it go.
>> The Torpedo Room at Eat Street Social is going on summer vacation starting Friday. Thursday will be a big blast-off party with half-priced drinks and free punch (for those sporting tropical wear), and then the space will close until Fall.
>> Meritage is on vacation starting today through July 7.
>> Travail is on vacation starting today through July 17.
>> Haute Dish is closed and playing hooky from July 4 through July 7.
