THE DREADED QUESTION of all holiday week questions ... so loaded with expectation, so fraught with real peril, so. much. pressure. Well, let's just admit how lucky we were to survive this unlucky year, and pick a spot to throw up some laughter. Here's a few...
Aster Cafe has a doozy of a deal, the 8pm seating for $75 includes three courses with wine and access to the River Room after 9pm where Trailer Trash will play with dancing, full bar, s'mores on patio, a sparkly toast.
Psycho Suzi's is doing the passport gig again. A mere $56 gets you all access to the live entertainment that is tiki-wonderland, plus four drinks of your choice, a buffet of sustenance, and unlimited precious moments in the photo booth.
Vincent has tweeted that the New Year Resolution Burger (beef, foie gras, truffle sauce) will be on his NYE menu, along with both a petite and grand tasting of dishes such as New York strip au poivre, but the new Dad is still working on the details of the menu. But just trust and call for a rezzie, the show will go on!
Sample Room is hitting all levels, with two seatings and a multi-course veggie ($40) or duck ($50) themed menu. For the duck-o-philes, we're talking about duck egg raviolo and scallop with duck prosciutto among other treats. Tom & Jerry for the after dinner drink, ftw.
Bachelor Farmer has moved pre-dinner cocktail service upstairs from 5-9pm, even if you're not dining on-site you may partake in fire-side drinks, Champagnes, and ground-to-order tartare. Staying on means a 5.5 course dinner for $85, the .5 being a tableside course from Marvel Bar which, at the end of the night, will host an underground dance party which will feature a DJ, a punch card fro drinks, and face painting. Marvel opens at 9pm, and it's first come first serve.
Rosa Mexicano is doing a four course meal for $55 per person that includes tableside guacamole and your choice of appetizer and entree. There will also be an open bar/DJ package for the later hours.
At The Kenwood, chef Don Saunders is doing a seven course tasting menu for $85 (+ $40 for wine) that includes braised lamb cheeks and sturgeon poached in olive oil. The space is small, even though there are a few seating times, and the tasting menu will be the only menu offered that night.
Hell's Kitchen will host an epic night: for the first time DJs Jake Rudh and Shannon Blowtorch will be spinning together for Transmission in Berlin starting at 10pm for $10. If you want to start out with a little steak, lobster & linguini first for ($45), with the musical leanings of Doug Otto & The Getaways from 5-8pm, so be it.
Pinstripes always offers a nice deal for people with kiddoes in tow on NYE, a balloon drop at 8pm with party favors, a toast and of course bowling and bocce to keep it lively.
Heartland does it right, with three different four course menus to choose from for $75. Reserve your spot for those and you might be eating roasted chestnut soup or smoked trout beignets at midnight. If you're looser and don't want to commit to a rezzie, pop in for the ala carte bar menu which has equally good eats such as northern pike mousse raviolo or beef tartare.
Borough is throwing down with five courses for $65 (+ $30 for wine) with some fancy looking food that includes an homage to the late Charlie Trotter, plus chicken and dumplings with black truffle gnocchi and foie gras.
