Don’t Panic! The No-Reservation Guide to Valentine’s Day

Well how lovely that this Fresh Forkin' Friday falls on Valentine's Day. If you think you can still get a rezzie somewhere for a time other than 3:30 or 10:30, you are officially screwed. But love doesn't have to be a hot table at a hot restaurant, especially on this the busiest day of the year. Love can be take-out from Chef Shack Ranch, a crawl through the NE beerhood with a warm stool at a new taproom, or a carpet picnic in your own living room with the goods from France 44. It's time to get creative, young hearts.
La Fresca has opened in south Minneapolis. Hector Ruiz, of Rincon 38 and Cafe Ena, can be seen in his new kitchen behind a giant glass window. The brightly colored space is warm and friendly, serving modern Mexican plates. (May have open seats tonight, just saying.)
A new Dunn Bros. concept called Makers Cafe has opened in Edina alongside the co-working space Cafe Inc. It's B/L/D with Dunn Bros. coffee, TeaSource teas, local beer and keg wines, plus a menu of scratch-made cafe food. Dutch-baby alert!
Birchwood Cafe is closing on Feb. 22 to complete its new construction and makeover. Though, starting March 1, fans will be able to score Birchwood breakfast at Verdant Tea, from 8 a.m.—12 p.m., seven days a week.
Sandcastle has launched a Kickstarter to help your screams for ice cream. The lakeside shop is looking for help to fund the purchase of a soft-serve ice cream machine and promises Flicker-esque cones all summer (might we get a truffled pig's foot brickle or mint chocolate bone marrow chip?)
Also looking for some Kickstarter love, Prairie Dogs Hot Dog & Handcrafted Sausages is hoping to score $30k by the end of March to launch their new dog joint. There will be dogs, sausages, craft beers, and delivery if it all works out.
