How does one prepare for the coming Great Minnesota Get Together? Stretch and plan, plan and stretch. Thursday will be a pro-eating day for me. DMG and I will be out there all day noshing on the new stuff, sipping the blueberry beer, checking out the new West End market, soaking it all in. I’ll be reading the meditations of Joey Chestnut and trying on stretchy pants until then.
Castle Danger Brewery is officially open in Two Harbors today. Head up for the grand opening festivites, which include lots of live music, food, games, and root beer. Good day for a drive, just saying.
The Workshop, the newest evolution of the Union space so designed by Stewart Woodman, will open for dinner next Wednesday.
Urban Growler Brewing Co. has been softly open for a bit, but has announced its Grand Opening celebration for Aug. 27 during which there will be live music, Mayor Coleman cutting ribbons, and all sorts of fun.
Wander North Distillery has launched this weekend. The production space, which includes a sampling room, is in an industrial park in Northeast, right down from the very-soon-launching new location for NorthGate Brewery. The distillery’s first effort, Outpost Vodka, can be found in stores this weekend.
I’m not sure if I already told you this or not, but Hans Bakery, the bakery of the moment in Anoka with its bee sting cakes and giant Texas donuts, is opening a second location. The golden spot is in Orono/Navarre, in a former coffee shop once known as the Minnetonka Mud. Construction is under way. Count me as super-psyched.
Bon Appetit announced its list of the Top 50 restaurants in the US and Travail/Rookery has made the cut. The top 10 will be revealed in the September restaurants issue, so they should already know if they’re in it or not. Go pester them and let me know what you find out. You could do it at this special brunch they’re hosting on Aug. 24.
Block Party Reminder! Crayfest on Saturday, Augtoberfest on Sunday.
In celebration of Julia Child’s birthday, the Linden Hills Farmers Market is throwing a little bash on Sunday with two of our most fabulous local culinary ladies, Lynne Rossetto Kasper and Amy Thielen. The ladies will answer your culinary quandaries and play a little round of Stump The Cook with Brett Bannon and the Kitchen in the Market girls.
Prairie Dogs are popping up again next week. Monday at 7th Street Social, and Wednesday at Aster Café.
This is important. Brit’s is screening The World’s End, which is basically the most epic movie about the most epic pub crawl in the history of all time, on Monday on the green. Drink up, let’s Boo-boo.
