First Things First: Choosing a Date
By: Kate Swanson | Posted: 07/09/2014
Remember the pre-Instagram and pre-hashtag days, when disposable cameras were a must-have at weddings for those candid guest shots? Well, that’s a little outdated for today’s tech-savvy couples. Thanks to smartphones, capturing your big day on video through the eyes of your loved ones has never been easier—or more affordable.
WeddingMix is an iPhone- and Android-friendly app that, unlike a traditional videographer, puts the power in the hands of the people, or, in this case, your wedding guests. Simply download the free app, share the access code with your friends and family, and let them capture those behind-the-scenes shots and 30-second video clips that you, as a bride, would’ve never seen.
WeddingMix developer Ariane Fisher didn’t have the opportunity to videotape her own wedding, but she, along with her husband Mike, has made it her job to ensure brides don’t make the same mistake. “Mike and I had the idea to start a business that would help other couples avoid the regret,” says Fisher. “We are absolutely committed to getting every bride an affordable wedding video.”
After the wedding, a team of professional editors begins piecing together the video clips and photos to recreate your special day, with bride and groom approval at multiple points along the way. “After the bride and groom upload everything they also want to put in there, they can then pick and choose what they want to include in their final,” explains WeddingMix PR rep Orly Telisman. “Then we edit it. So it’s that simple.”
The finished product varies, based on price point. The basic app-only package, which costs $99, comes with 10 minutes of professionally edited video, while the most popular package, coming in at $399, includes three HD cameras at the wedding for optimal photo and video capturing, an hour-long video montage, and a full-color DVD.
That’s the package Megan and Mike Kaczmarek chose for their August 2013 Minnesota wedding. Almost a year after saying “I do,” Megan is still happy with both the app and final video. “It’s really accessible and easy to work with,” she says. “I wouldn’t have thought of that with it [being an app], but there were a ton of people I didn’t expect who went ahead and uploaded pictures and videos.” Megan says that along with great pricing, the WeddingMix app was a fun way to get her guests involved. She looks forward to at least an annual viewing of their wedding with her husband as a way to celebrate their anniversary.
