Saying 'Yes' to a Dress
By: Kate Swanson | Posted: 07/22/2014
Independence Day may have come and gone, but Angelique’s Bridal Salon, located in Blaine, is finding ways to continue supporting military troops.
For the seventh year in a row, Angelique’s Bridal and Savvi Formalwear will join forces to host their annual Military Extravaganza. This event gifts military brides with a free bridal gown, plus a chance to win other prizes, such as a tuxedo rental, flowers, pictures, cake, and a DJ. Of the 100 dresses that will be given away at the event this Sunday, 10 will be Monique Lhuillier gowns.
Owner Jackie Basney says that the Military Extravaganza is a way for her to support past, present, and future military. “When we began this seven years ago, we had no idea how emotional it would be. I feel everyone deserves to have their dream wedding and this is our way to help."
Basney also has a personal connection to those who serve. “My father and my husband’s father were both in the services,” she says. “I was brought up very patriotic; that was instilled in me. I like to think I am doing it for them as well."
Couples that are interested need to submit a brief essay of their military love story through Angelique’s website no later than this Friday, July 25. Couples must be present to win and have two valid military IDs to be eligible. Winners will be announced during the event on July 27 from 12 p.m.–4 p.m. at Angelique's.
