EVERLASTing Love: The Big Day
By: Jillian Yanish | Posted: 10/02/2013
Brides are putting aside traditional flower girl attire in favor of fun, comfortable, and stylish tutus.
Oh Baby! in Edina is ahead of the curve. The store has been selling tutus for more than five years, but has recently seen a surge in popularity—especially for weddings. "We've done tutus as flower girl dresses for fun in the past, but in the last four years, it has really taken off [as a trend]," says Oh Baby! designer April Barnick.
The tutus are exclusively handmade for the children’s clothing and furniture boutique by the store’s owner and designer, Mary Lauer. Featuring customizable colors, rhinestones, designs, and sizes, the layers upon layers of tulle fulfill every little girl’s dream of being a ballerina—or at least looking like one.
Another bonus: tutus come with a lower price tag than typical flower girl attire. A tutu in the basic collection is $39.95. Add a cute top that matches your wedding color scheme, a pair of ballet flats, and you have yourself an adorable, stylish outfit for the youngest member of your bridal party.
"We’re always about look, but also about function," Barnick says. “Let’s have them be comfortable, but also beautiful.”
