The grand dame of breweries, Summit has built-out its Ratskeller Hall to become the St. Paul taproom. It's only open two days a week, but a limited edition beer is always on tap in addition to an extensive selection of the brewery's regular offerings.

This makeshift room will have to suffice for Surly fans while they wait for the brewery's mega-complex to be completed this year. Available beers rotate between seasonals, specials, and regulars. Bonus for beer geeks: The occasional chance to get a free tour of the brewery.

Third Street Brewhouse
Cold Spring has a long brewing tradition, and Third Street keeps pushing it forward in the brewery's spacious modern taproom. Another fun road trip from the cities, plus a lawn/patio set up for drinking and picnicking in the warm months.

Vine Park Brewing isn't really a taproom, per se, but at this West 7th spot in St. Paul you can brew your own beer, or pick up a growler of one of their six available brews to take home. The root beer is also great, and sometimes they pair up with Mississippi Market down the street for mini events.
