Editorial Intern

Internships are available year-round in the editorial department of MSP Communications, which publishes Mpls.St.Paul Magazine and multiple custom publications, including Delta Sky magazine, Independent Banker, Viking magazine, and more.

Job Description: The paid position ($9/hour) is about 30 hours per week and involves fact checking, participating in staff meetings and projects, writing (including managing an online events calendar), and editing for Mpls.St.Paul Magazine, Mpls.St.Paul WeddingsMpls.St.Paul Home & Design, and mspmag.com. Interns finesse research and reporting/editing skills, and get an inside look at the workings of a monthly publication and daily produced website. We want our interns to leave the internship program with an understanding of both print and digital publishing platforms, which is crucial in today's job market.

Start Dates: We offer two internship programs—winter/spring (January through June) and summer/fall (June through January). There is some flexibility in the starting and ending dates based on the magazine production schedule.

Requirements: Candidate must be pursuing or have graduated with an English/ journalism/communications major or minor, or have related experience. Eagerness, a willingness to learn, and an interest in magazines is a must. Experience at a student publication or other publications is helpful, but not required.

Contact: To apply, please e-mail a cover letter, current résumé, and two or three writing samples or clips (no term papers, please) to Mpls.St.Paul Magazine at intern@mspmag.com. You must also include the date you can start, as well as your Monday-Friday availability to be considered. Strong candidates have very clean, articulate application packages. Items should be in PDF or Word document format. No links to clips. Indicate if you are interested in a winter/spring or summer/fall internship. Apply by October 30, 2015 for 2016's winter/spring internship and March 18, 2016 for summer/fall. No phone calls or follow-up e-mails, please. We contact candidates as soon as we are able.
